Do You Pay Job Candidates Who Work During the Interview as Per Diem Employees in Business and at Work?

Work sampling during an interview process – a candidate showing that they can complete the key task(s) of the job they seek – whether it’s:

  • Software development
  • Creating a Profit & Loss statement in MS Excel
  • Writing a press holding statement in 10 minutes (my own personal experience)
  • Installing a light fixture, etc. –

is one of the best ways in my experience – even more important than just talk interviews – for the hiring authority and the candidate to confirm that the job is a good fit for all.

Interview work sampling is also time worked, and the candidate should be paid for their interview work sampling time as per diem or casual employees, not as independent contractors.
