Attacking a Co-Worker with a Nail Gun (or Anything Else) is Grounds for Immediate Termination in Business and at Work

Not only is the following grounds for immediate termination:

  • ….(the employee) used a Bostitch nail gun to shoot the co-worker in the arm, and then threatened the victim further by pointing the nail gun at the victim’s kneecap and chest. The victim had to have surgery to remove the nail, officials said;

It’s also felony assault:

  • ….the employee was charged with felony assault, misdemeanor counts of weapons possession and menacing in the Monday incident, Sheriff Craig Apple said Friday.

Now, mileage may vary with public sector and/or union environments, where the nail gun felony assault occurred:

  • The county spokesperson said that (the employee) has been suspended from his job, but it was not immediately clear whether he was off the job with, or without, pay.
  • The county executive requested a “thorough” investigation into the incident.
  • “We always do everything and anything possible to make sure our county employees are safe and there is a safe working environment,” the spokesperson said.

Be assured that in other sectors and/or nonunion environments:

  • When an employee shoots another employee with a nail gun in the arm;
  • And then threatens further bodily harm to the same victim; and logically;
  • Is arrested for felony assault and menacing;

That it’s unequivocally grounds for immediate termination (no suspension or investigation necessary in this case to ensure a safe working environment and the safety of all employees), in business and at work.
